$8,000 Tax Credit Offered for First Time Homebuyers

If you have not owned a home in the previous three years, you could qualify for the $8,000 tax credit on your 2009 income tax return. The purchase must be for a primary residence and closed before April 30, 2010. The credit does not have to be repaid unless you sell the home within 36 months of purchase.

There is also a tax credit available of $6,500 for those who have lived in their current residence at least 5 years of the past 8 years.
